“For we are His workmanship, created in Christ Jesus for good works, which God prepared beforehand that we should walk in them.” (Ephesians 2:10)
Understanding Our Identity as God’s Workmanship
When we believe in Jesus, repent, and are baptized in His name, God makes us a new creation. Physically, we’re the same person with the same desires and weaknesses. But spiritually, God has wiped away our sins, justified us by the blood of Jesus, and made us citizens in His kingdom. I belong to Christ; He has saved me, given me new life, and called me to live accordingly. I am the workmanship of God created for good works. This incredible blessing of spiritual transformation is available to all mankind, Jews and Gentiles alike.
How God’s Workmanship Bridges the Divide
Jesus fulfilled the Law of Moses by ending the elements that distinguished the Jew from the Gentile. Where animosity and prejudice once existed, there is now fellowship and peace in Christ. Through Jesus, God unifies everyone who obeys the gospel by believing, confessing, repenting, and receiving baptism. God achieves this by giving His Holy Spirit to everyone who obeys the gospel. This unity represents a fundamental shift in how humanity relates to one another, moving from a state of separation and hostility to one of shared purpose and divine connection through the Savior.
Living as a New Creation
By the blood of Jesus, those who were once far off are brought near. The spiritual transition from being a stranger to being part of God’s workmanship is a profound change that impacts every aspect of a believer’s life. We are no longer defined by our past failures or cultural divisions but by the grace that has been extended to us. This new identity requires us to walk in the good works that were prepared for us from the beginning. As we embrace this calling, we reflect the peace and fellowship that Jesus made possible for all people.
