In this episode, we tackle a tough question that has puzzled many of us: how can a loving God send someone to hell? As Christians, we believe that God is love, but we also believe that God condemns people to hell. How can these two ideas coexist?
To start, let’s explore how God feels about sin and the sinner who refuses to repent. In 1 John, we’re told,
This is the message which we have heard from Him and declare to you, that God is light and in Him is no darkness at all. If we say that we have fellowship with Him, and walk in darkness, we lie and do not practice the truth. But if we walk in the light as He is in the light, we have fellowship with one another, and the blood of Jesus Christ His Son cleanses us from all sin (verses 5-7).
God cannot associate with sin or sinners who refuse to repent.
But God also loves the world, and He wants to save us from our sins. In John 3:16-17, Jesus says,
“For God so loved the world that He gave His only Son, that whoever believes in Him should not perish but have eternal life. For God sent the Son into the world not to condemn the world, but that the world might be saved through Him.”
God’s love for us is clear, but so is His hatred for sin.
As we delve into this topic, we’ll also explore the concept of hell and why it’s necessary for God’s justice. We’ll examine how God’s need for justice doesn’t contradict His love, but rather is an integrated part of His character.
Throughout this episode, we’ll be asking tough questions and seeking answers from Scripture. We’ll challenge our assumptions about love and justice, and we’ll explore what it means to truly love someone. Is it loving to warn someone about the consequences of their actions, or is it unloving? How do we define love, and how does God define it?
Join me as we dive into this complex and thought-provoking topic. Let’s explore the nature of God’s love and justice together, and may we come away with a deeper understanding of our Creator and His character.
